Energy Systems Consultant – Arab Region

About the role

The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) seeks an experienced consultant to produce an analytical paper on energy systems across Arab states. The assignment is remote, lasts six weeks, and supports ESCWA’s Climate Change and Natural Resource Sustainability Cluster.

Key responsibilities

• Develop an annotated outline and two draft versions of the analytical paper, incorporating ESCWA feedback.
• Provide a framing of energy systems within the sustainable energy transition.
• Review the current landscape of energy infrastructure in Arab states, including projects under construction or planned.
• Assess economic multipliers, investment potential, and human‑capital impacts of these projects.
• Examine how digital and physical infrastructure enhances resilience and reduces vulnerability of energy systems.
• Deliver actionable recommendations to enable investment and regional cooperation.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in engineering, economics, business, or a related energy field (PhD preferred).
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience in energy, with a focus on Arab‑region development.
• Proven track record of writing reports or analytical papers for international organisations.
• Experience conducting quantitative analysis and interpreting results.
