Category Manager

About the role

The Category Manager will drive sales optimisation for an assigned product group within Spinneys’ retail network. This role combines vendor management, pricing, marketing and inventory responsibilities to enhance product performance.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and implement long‑term development strategies for product categories aligned with the annual business plan.
• Identify growth opportunities, develop strategies, present recommendations and launch programmes that improve operational effectiveness.
• Manage brand and exclusive product portfolios, select differentiated offerings and design promotional activities.
• Strategise product positioning to maximise visibility and oversee assortment decisions.
• Monitor stock levels, product movement, ageing, ranging and allocations.
• Develop merchandising layouts for each branch based on market trends and customer demographics.
• Conduct regular branch visits and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Collaborate with Marketing to launch new products at the right time and market.
• Build and maintain long‑term vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, payment terms, rebates and promotional support.
• Execute daily and periodic replenishment orders for local and imported supplies.
• Perform market research to understand demand and inform category decisions.

Required profile

• Proven experience in category management within a retail or supermarket environment.
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to develop and execute strategic plans.
• Excellent negotiation and vendor relationship management skills.
• Ability to work cross‑functionally with marketing, merchandising and supply‑chain teams.
• Attention to detail regarding health, safety and compliance standards.
