Statistical Analysis and Knowledge Product Development Consultant

About the role

The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is recruiting a consultant to support the Sultanate of Oman in developing and implementing the Governorate Competitiveness Index (GCI), which evaluates economic, social, governance and environmental performance across Oman's governorates. The consultant delivers four outputs that strengthen data management, provide statistical analyses and visualizations, and support project reports, policy briefs and stakeholder consultations, in line with UN statistical and publishing standards. The work is based at the UN House in Beirut and lasts about four months.

Key responsibilities

• Support the implementation and updating of the Oman Governorate Competitiveness Index and related analytical assignments under the supervision of the Project Coordinator.
• Validate, clean, harmonize and organize data; maintain indicator databases.
• Conduct statistical analysis and modelling to identify trends, comparative findings and policy implications.
• Prepare dashboards and visualizations, draft technical reports and policy briefs, and develop evidence-based policy recommendations.
• Provide technical inputs to expert meetings, consultations and workshops, and prepare related materials and outcome summaries.

Required profile

• Master's degree or equivalent in Economics, Statistics, Data Science, Development Studies or a related field.
• At least one year of professional experience in a related field.
• Fluency in English and Arabic; knowledge of French is desirable.
• Legal right to live and work in Beirut.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in statistical software (STATA, R, Python or advanced SPSS/Excel).
• Data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
• Exposure to indices or governance monitoring tools, and familiarity with data analysis, statistics or governance research, is desirable.
