Shipping and Clearance Officer

About the role

The Shipping and Clearance Officer will manage all import and export logistics, ensuring that goods move smoothly, compliantly and cost‑effectively. You will act as the main liaison between freight forwarders, customs authorities and internal teams to guarantee timely delivery of materials.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate shipping, customs clearance and logistics for both inbound and outbound shipments.
• Prepare, review and verify all required documentation such as invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, certificates of origin and insurance papers.
• Track shipments from origin to destination, aligning with procurement to match invoices, purchase orders and shipping documents.
• Resolve delays, clearance issues and documentation discrepancies with customs and third‑party partners.
• Handle claims for damaged, short or lost shipments and follow up with insurers or logistics providers.
• Maintain accurate records of duties, taxes and logistics documents.
• Analyse shipping costs and routes, recommending improvements for cost optimisation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management or a related field.
• 2–3 years of experience in shipping, logistics or customs clearance, preferably in an FMCG or industrial setting.
• Strong knowledge of local and international import/export regulations and customs laws.

Required skills

• Understanding of Incoterms and international shipping documentation.
• Proficiency with logistics tracking systems and ERP platforms.
• Advanced MS Office skills, especially Excel.
• Familiarity with trade compliance and customs procedures.
