Legal Intern – International

About the role

This unpaid internship offers a unique opportunity to support UNRWA's Legal Affairs team in Lebanon. Working under the Head of the Field Legal Office, you will gain hands‑on experience in international, administrative and humanitarian law while contributing to the Agency’s mission.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal support on disciplinary and administrative matters, including case analysis, drafting opinions and preparing legal documents.
• Conduct in‑depth research on public international law, human rights, humanitarian and refugee law, aligning findings with UNRWA regulations.
• Draft, review and finalize various legal documents such as correspondence, briefing papers, contracts, procurement agreements and project reports.
• Assist with issues related to privileges and immunities, including matters concerning staff arrest or detention.
• Research and advise on internal justice, staff misconduct and governance issues.
• Prepare presentations to raise staff awareness on administrative and disciplinary law.
• Participate in legal meetings, trainings and events, taking notes and preparing reports.
• Support the Legal Office’s tools and resources development.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or recently graduated from a graduate law program (Master’s or equivalent) with a focus on public international law, administrative law, contract or commercial law.
• Completed at least two full academic years of law studies covering relevant courses.
• Excellent command of spoken and written English.
