IT Librarian (Library Systems & Technology Manager)

About the role

The IT Librarian leads the technology environment of the library, ensuring that digital resources, catalogues and storage systems operate smoothly. This role combines library‑specific system expertise with broader IT management to support staff and patrons.

Key responsibilities

• Administer and support the Integrated Library System (ILS), digital asset management platforms, library catalogues and related software.
• Monitor shared storage access, manage user permissions, and maintain naming conventions.
• Evaluate, test and deploy software updates, coordinating with vendors and developers to resolve issues.
• Design and implement integrations with institutional platforms such as learning management systems, authentication services and digital repositories.
• Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and library privacy policies.
• Provide technical support and training to library staff and patrons, creating user guides and documentation.
• Conduct technology assessments, feasibility studies and cost‑benefit analyses for new solutions.
• Lead library‑focused IT projects, defining goals, timelines, risk mitigation and progress monitoring.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing library technology systems or similar IT environments.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities and attention to data security.
• Excellent communication skills for training and stakeholder collaboration.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
