Research Assistant – Economic Governance (2‑Month Contract)

About the role

The Research Assistant will support the collection, organization, validation, and preliminary analysis of quantitative and qualitative information for projects on competition policy, consumer protection, and market functioning within ESCWA's Economic Governance and Planning Section. This is a two‑month consultancy based at UN‑House ESCWA in Beirut.

Key responsibilities

• Research, extract, consolidate, and organize quantitative and qualitative data from national, regional, and international sources using appropriate tools.
• Validate and clean data to ensure accuracy and reliability.
• Prepare background notes, country information tables, presentations, and other project outputs.
• Contribute to the development and updating of the Arab Legislation Portal.
• Support the preparation of research reports, market studies, and capacity‑building materials.
• Assist in documenting legal and regulatory reviews related to competition and consumer protection.

Required profile

• Recent graduate or final‑year student in economics, law, social sciences or a related field.
• Strong analytical mindset with meticulous attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Familiarity with research methodologies and data handling.
