Mid-Level Artificial Intelligence Engineer

About the role

The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) seeks a Mid‑Level Artificial Intelligence Engineer to design, develop, and deploy production‑grade agentic AI systems and large‑language‑model (LLM) solutions for the Arab Development Portal and broader innovation initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Architect multi‑agent systems using frameworks such as LangGraph, AutoGen, CrewAI, or equivalents, enabling complex reasoning, retrieval, and action pipelines.
• Design and implement Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions with hybrid search, re‑ranking, and contextual compression for knowledge‑intensive tasks.
• Integrate and benchmark state‑of‑the‑art LLMs (proprietary and open‑source) for Arabic and multilingual content, applying prompt engineering, chain‑of‑thought, and fine‑tuning (LoRA, QLoRA, full fine‑tuning) as needed.
• Develop tool‑use and function‑calling patterns that allow agents to interact with external APIs, databases, and computational tools.
• Create evaluation frameworks, automated benchmarking, and iterative improvement loops for agent performance.
• Design and expose RESTful and streaming APIs to deliver AI capabilities to internal systems and the ADP platform.

Required profile

• Mid‑level professional with proven experience in AI system design, LLM integration, and production deployment.
• Strong background in multi‑agent frameworks and retrieval‑augmented generation techniques.
• Familiarity with Arabic and multilingual data processing.
• Ability to work independently in a remote, consultancy setting for a 6‑month contract.
