Chief Security Officer

About the role

The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is seeking a senior professional to lead its Security and Safety Section in Beirut. Reporting directly to the Executive Secretary and under the technical supervision of UNDSS, the Chief Security Officer will ensure the safety of staff, visitors and assets across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Advise the Head of Office on security threats and develop policies and procedures for security operations.
• Coordinate with SIOC Lebanon and ESCWA administration to prepare comprehensive security plans.
• Monitor local security conditions, identify probable threats and provide preventative guidance to staff and dependents.
• Establish and maintain air, land and sea evacuation capabilities for emergencies.
• Liaise with local authorities and international bodies to coordinate responses to natural disasters.
• Represent ESCWA at international, regional and inter‑agency meetings on security and safety matters.
• Provide training and advice on personal and residential security measures.
• Manage guard forces, arrange protection details for senior personnel and high‑level visitors.
• Lead, develop and train the SSS team, ensuring timely execution of mandated activities.
• Develop and implement security and safety training programmes in line with UNDSS strategy.

Required profile

• Extensive knowledge of security management and a solid background in military, police or comparable security specialization.
• Proven ability to analyse threats, develop strategic security plans and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
• Strong leadership and team‑development skills, with experience managing security personnel.
• Excellent communication skills and the capacity to represent the organisation at high‑level forums.
