IYCF Counsellor – National Post, Beirut

About the role

The IYCF Counsellor provides targeted support and counseling to pregnant and breastfeeding women and caregivers facing Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) challenges. The role covers service delivery across Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCCs) and host communities, reaching both displaced and non-displaced populations, through individual counseling and group awareness activities following national IYCF SOPs. The position is contingent on donor funding confirmation, with an anticipated start date of November/December 2026.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one counseling to pregnant and breastfeeding mothers and caregivers in shelters, PHCCs and host communities
• Monitor the RIMS account regularly to review and accept cases referred by the IYCF national hotline or other organizations
• Follow up with assisted women, especially mothers of infants under 6 months, to promote exclusive breastfeeding
• Facilitate IYCF awareness sessions in shelters and communities and join community health teams during outreach
• Collaborate with PHC gynecologists, midwives and community health volunteers to identify women needing support
• Distribute Multiple Micronutrient Powders and complementary feeding kits according to nutrition sector guidelines
• Build the capacity of PHCC staff and the program team on IYCF, breastfeeding, newborn care, ANC and PNC
• Report daily activities using databases such as the RI IYCF database, nutrition supplies database and SRA database, and collect means of verification for distribution activities
• Act in line with the organization's code of conduct and safeguarding policies, and report any concerns

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in midwifery (preferred), nursing or a related field
• Completed mandatory 20-hour training on Infant and Young Child Feeding
• At least two years of experience as an IYCF Counsellor
• Knowledge of local and cultural views on maternal and child health
• High level of independence, problem-solving and decision-making within the job scope, with discussion of decisions with the Health Program Coordinator
• Excellent communication, teamwork, attention to detail and cultural sensitivity
