Bookseller – Customer Service & Sales

About the role

The Bookseller will welcome customers in the store, understand their reading interests and guide them to the right titles. The role combines front‑line customer service with sales targets, inventory handling and visual merchandising in a lively bookstore environment.

Key responsibilities

• Greet visitors, answer inquiries and recommend books across all genres.
• Process sales, returns and special orders using the cash register and ticketing system.
• Maintain tidy, well‑organized shelves and rotate displays according to promotional guidelines.
• Monitor stock levels, receive new titles, price them and assist with inventory management.
• Resolve customer complaints professionally and ensure a positive shopping experience.
• Support promotional events, visual merchandising and online/warehouse return requests.
• Stay updated on new releases, market trends and author information to provide informed advice.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Humanities, Literature, Documentation or a related field.
• 0‑5 years of retail or customer‑service experience, preferably in a bookstore.
• Fluent in English and French with strong communication skills.
• Ability to stand for long periods and work weekends or holidays as needed.
• Organised, proactive, problem‑solver with high emotional intelligence.
