Web Content Specialist – Digital Communications

About the role

The Web Content Specialist will lead information architecture and content development for a portfolio of about 50 university websites. Reporting to the Director of Digital Communications, the role blends copywriting, visual curation, and technical publishing to deliver user‑friendly, on‑brand digital experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Design and recommend information‑architecture schemes aligned with audience goals and stakeholder briefs.
• Propose and refine page layouts that enhance quick fact consumption, brand consistency, and user delight.
• Gather, verify, and author clear, concise, on‑brand copy for web pages, forms, and email blasts.
• Optimize all content for search engines and emerging machine‑learning tools.
• Select and integrate appropriate images, videos, and external embeds, respecting licensing requirements.
• Publish and maintain content using Movable Type, WordPress, Squarespace and other CMS platforms.
• Collaborate with web developers, providing them with copy, assets, and layout guidance, and review built pages for accuracy.
• Maintain an organized archive of source materials and support non‑technical editors with plain‑English guides.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, marketing or a related field.
• Strong editorial skills with an eye for detail and brand voice.
• Ability to work on both campuses and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.

Required skills

• Experience with Movable Type, WordPress, and Squarespace CMS platforms.
• Search engine optimization (SEO) knowledge.
• Proficiency in selecting and licensing visual assets (stock, Creative Commons, commissioned).
