Lead AI Engineer

About the role

You will own and develop the AI and adaptive‑learning layer of our e‑learning platform, covering teaching, learning, content creation and analytics. This is a hands‑on senior position where you will not only build solutions but also make them transparent, document decisions and guide non‑technical teammates.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, design and deliver AI‑driven features from prototype to production, selecting the best technical approach for each problem.
• Own the adaptive‑learning engine, including personalized paths, mastery tracking, difficulty adjustment and targeted remediation.
• Define metadata and learning‑data foundations together with content and product teams.
• Instrument the platform to capture learning signals from day one.
• Build systems that ground AI in proprietary educational content, ensuring accuracy, relevance and safety.
• Evaluate self‑hosted and API‑based models, balancing quality, cost and privacy.
• Establish and enforce responsible‑AI practices, data‑privacy safeguards and compliance for minors.
• Set up evaluation frameworks to prove impact on learning outcomes and report results to leadership.
• Write clean, production‑grade Python and expose AI services via well‑defined APIs.
• Mentor a junior AI engineer and document all work to ensure team knowledge transfer.

Required profile

• Hands‑on engineer with a strong sense of ownership and ability to explain technical decisions to non‑technical audiences.
• Experience delivering end‑to‑end AI features in a production environment.
• Commitment to responsible AI, data privacy and compliance, especially for student data.
