Field Staff Counsellor

About the role

The Field Staff Counsellor provides psychosocial support to UNRWA staff and their families in the field, especially during emergencies and critical incidents. Working under the Deputy Director – Operations (Lebanon) and the Chief of Staff, Care and Well‑being Division (HQ Amman), the role integrates staff care into field work plans.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver psycho‑education, psychological first aid, and family support to individuals and groups affected by traumatic events.
• Assess the impact of critical and security incidents and recommend appropriate psychosocial interventions.
• Coordinate with peer helpers, HQ staff‑care teams, and local stakeholders to ensure timely support.
• Develop and disseminate resilience‑building materials and strengthen referral mechanisms for mental‑health services.
• Conduct regular psychosocial needs assessments, briefings, and group support sessions.
• Support capacity‑building for peer support groups and advise on stress‑mitigation strategies.
• Maintain detailed records of activities and produce monthly reports with trend analysis.

Required profile

• Relevant academic background in psychology, social work, or a related field.
• Experience providing psychosocial support in humanitarian or emergency contexts.
• Ability to work collaboratively with field offices and headquarters teams.
• Strong communication skills and cultural sensitivity.
