Highway Maintainer III (District 2)

About the role

The State of New Hampshire Department of Transportation is seeking a Highway Maintainer III to perform skilled, year‑round highway maintenance across District 2. The role involves operating and servicing complex heavy equipment for maintenance, construction, and emergency traffic services while supervising entry‑level staff.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, and service heavy highway equipment and machinery.
• Perform construction and emergency traffic service tasks on the state highway system.
• Supervise and review the work of entry‑level personnel and small crews.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and Department of Transportation regulations.

Required profile

• Combination of at least 1 year of education and experience after high school.
• Valid Commercial Driver’s License, Class A (CDL‑A) with appropriate tank endorsement (or CDL‑B with ability to obtain CDL‑A within 1 year for trainee status).
• Clean motor vehicle record meeting DOT standards.
• Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lb intermittently and be reachable 24 hours for emergency calls.

Required skills

• Heavy equipment operation and maintenance.
• Commercial Driver’s License (Class A) with required endorsements.
