Electrical Site Engineer – Africa

About the role

The Electrical Site Engineer is responsible for executing, supervising and installing electrical systems on site, including power distribution, lighting, earthing, lightning protection and low-current systems. Work must follow approved drawings, specifications and project schedules while keeping quality, safety and cost under control. The role coordinates with stakeholders and supports the delivery of construction projects.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise installation of power distribution, lighting, cable trays, switchgear and low-voltage/low-current systems, ensuring work follows approved drawings, specifications and method statements, and monitor daily activities against the schedule.
• Coordinate with mechanical, civil and architectural teams, attend site meetings, liaise with subcontractors, suppliers and consultants, and resolve shop drawing discrepancies.
• Ensure installations meet project specs, national and international standards (e.g. IEC, IEEE, NEC) and local utility codes; conduct inspections, prepare inspection requests and rectify non-conformances.
• Assist in testing and commissioning of electrical systems, switchgear, generators and low-current networks, coordinating with commissioning teams and consultants.
• Maintain daily reports, progress reports and work logs, track material usage, prepare as-built drawings, support RFIs and method statements, and keep an issues log.
• Ensure compliance with site safety regulations and electrical safety standards, monitor safe work practices such as lockout/tagout, run toolbox talks and act on identified hazards.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 5 years of experience in MEP construction or electrical site execution.
• Experience in testing and commissioning is a plus.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of low voltage, medium voltage, lighting, earthing and low-current systems (fire alarm, CCTV, data).
• Familiarity with construction drawings, single-line diagrams, specifications and site practices.
