Chief of Section, Medical (UNIFIL)

About the role

The Chief of Section, Medical leads the Medical Services Section of UNIFIL, providing comprehensive medical support to mission personnel and overseeing health promotion programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, organise and supervise daily clinical activities, emergency response, pre‑placement examinations, immunisations and referrals.
• Prepare and control the medical budget, manage contracts for pharmaceuticals, equipment and supplies.
• Develop work plans, monitor implementation and evaluate staff performance.
• Coordinate training on first‑responder, trauma‑bag, mass‑casualty and HIV/AIDS awareness.
• Liaise with host‑nation health authorities, military medical units and UN agencies.

Required profile

• Doctorate in Medicine (MD) with registration to practice in a UN member state; residency in a medical specialty.
• Minimum 10 years of progressive clinical experience, including at least 5 years in clinical management.
• Fluency in English (UN Level II); French is an asset.

Required skills

• Clinical expertise in emergency medicine and tropical medicine.
• Budget preparation and contract management.
• Design and delivery of health‑education and HIV/AIDS prevention programmes.
