Postdoctoral Researcher – AI for Disaster Response

About the role

The Department of Computer Science and Mathematics at the Lebanese American University seeks a full‑time postdoctoral researcher to lead a project that enhances disaster‑response capabilities. The work focuses on building an integrated framework that combines artificial intelligence, machine learning and hybrid flying networks across heterogeneous IoT and wireless sensor environments.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement AI‑driven algorithms for disaster monitoring and response.
• Develop and evaluate hybrid UAV/satellite networking solutions within heterogeneous IoT and sensor networks.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams and contribute to high‑impact journal and conference papers.
• Supervise graduate and undergraduate students on related research activities.
• Assist in writing research proposals and securing external funding.

Required profile

• PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Communications Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Strong publication record in peer‑reviewed venues.
• Ability to work independently and communicate research results effectively.

Required skills

• Machine Learning and Federated Learning.

• Optimization, trajectory planning and resource allocation.
• Advanced programming (e.g., Python, C/C++).
• Experience with network simulation tools; familiarity with UAV or satellite systems is a plus.
