Macroeconomic and Public Finance Consultant (Peer Reviewer)

About the role

The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is recruiting a consultant to support its Shared Economic Prosperity Cluster on macroeconomic and public finance issues. The overall objective is to provide high-level technical and analytical inputs, research supplements, empirical assessments and review and feedback to substantive cluster products. The work is based at the UN House in Beirut and lasts about three months.

Key responsibilities

• Peer review the public finance resilience report, giving high-level substantive feedback and helping with supplementary research inputs, data and figures, recommendations and key messages.
• Peer review macroeconomic reports, providing similar feedback and summary recommendations.
• Contribute to background materials for high-level events, meetings and forums.
• Contribute to substantive reports through technical review, synthesis of content and messages, and empirical assessments of macroeconomic and public finance issues.
• Prepare briefings on macro and fiscal issues, highlighting key developments, policy challenges and implications.

Required profile

• A Master's degree in economics, finance or a related field; a PhD is desirable.
• At least 10 years of experience in public finance, macroeconomics, development economics or a related field.
• Experience of the Arab region development context is desirable.
• Fluency in English and Arabic; French is desirable.
• Legal right to live and work in Beirut; recruitment is on a local basis.
