Finance Officer

About the role

The Finance Officer will ensure robust financial controls and accurate reporting for Save the Children’s programmes and sub‑grants. Working closely with the Finance Coordinator, the role safeguards funds, manages cash, and supports compliance with donor and organisational standards, especially during humanitarian emergencies.

Key responsibilities

• Verify the accuracy, legitimacy and proper coding of all payments, purchase requests, orders and invoices before authorisation.
• Maintain daily cash and bank book records, ensuring alignment with donor and country coding structures.
• Manage Agresso processes, upload data regularly and ensure system accuracy.
• Coordinate with HR to close salary advances promptly and ensure departing staff settle all advances.
• Consolidate petty‑cash transactions daily, process timely payments and replenish petty‑cash for central and south‑area offices.
• Archive supporting documents securely and share scanned copies with the country office each month.
• Maintain internal control systems and cash‑management procedures in line with SCI’s Finance Manual and best accounting practices.
• Follow up audit recommendations and ensure field staff understand and apply financial procedures.
• Maintain an effective filing system for all financial transactions, ensuring documents are approved, coded and reconciled.
• Communicate policy updates to staff at all levels and foster good relationships with programme and logistics teams.

Required profile

• Experience in financial administration, preferably within an NGO or humanitarian context.
• Strong understanding of internal controls, cash management and donor compliance.
• Ability to work flexibly, including outside normal hours during emergencies.
• Willingness to undergo a standard‑level police check for child safeguarding.
