About the role
Saint George University Medical Center is seeking a full‑time or part‑time Cytogenetics Specialist to lead its Cytogenetics Unit within the Department of Laboratory Medicine. The successful candidate will oversee constitutional and acquired cytogenetic testing, contribute to academic activities, and ensure compliance with international standards.
Key responsibilities
- Perform and interpret conventional karyotyping for prenatal, postnatal, oncology and hematologic cases.
- Conduct fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) for constitutional and oncologic indications.
- Analyze bone‑marrow and peripheral‑blood specimens for hematologic disorders.
- Provide prenatal cytogenetic diagnosis (amniotic fluid, chorionic villi sampling) and postnatal evaluation of developmental delay, congenital anomalies, and infertility.
- Maintain quality assurance, validate new assays, document procedures and meet laboratory accreditation requirements.
- Supervise technologists and trainees, oversee quality‑control and proficiency‑testing programs, and develop SOPs.
- Participate in laboratory inspections, audits, and implementation of new technologies.
Required profile
- MD or PhD in Genetics, Cytogenetics, Molecular Genetics or a related discipline.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work within multidisciplinary academic teams.
- Prior academic or teaching experience is preferred.
