Cost Control Engineer

About the role

The Cost Control Engineer will support project operations by monitoring and controlling project expenditures, commitments, forecasts and overall financial performance. Reporting to the Chief Projects Officer, the role works closely with the Country Manager, Project Manager and various support functions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the project cost coding structure for BOQ items, activities, materials, services, subcontractors, equipment, labour and overheads.
• Review payment requests, purchase orders, invoices and related documentation to ensure accurate cost tracking.
• Control subcontractor and supplier payments, including IPC certification, retention, advance recovery and back‑charges.
• Establish and monitor project budgets, cost breakdowns, commitments, actual costs, contingencies and risk allowances.
• Track cost performance indicators such as Planned Value, Earned Value, CPI, cost variance and prepare monthly cost reports.

Required profile

• Proven experience in project cost control, cost reporting or commercial management within construction or engineering projects.
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to maintain an independent and objective approach when reviewing costs.
• Excellent communication skills to collaborate with project, procurement, contracts and finance teams.

Required skills

• Knowledge of cost coding structures and budgeting techniques.
• Familiarity with Earned Value Management (EVM) concepts and cost‑performance indicators.
• Ability to prepare cost forecasts, variance analysis and cash‑flow updates.
