Consultant for Economic Diversification and Resilience Study

About the role

The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) seeks a qualified consultant to produce an analytical paper on economic diversification and resilience across Arab economies. The assignment is remote, lasts four months, and culminates in three timed deliverables.

Key responsibilities

• Assess the structure and evolution of diversification across Arab economies, covering products, sectors, exports, markets and income sources.
• Review existing industrial and diversification strategies and analyse trends at country and regional levels.
• Identify key constraints to diversification such as market fragmentation, commodity dependence, weak productive capabilities, financing gaps, skills shortages and regulatory barriers.
• Develop a conceptual framework and policy recommendations to accelerate industrial development and build economic resilience.
• Produce three deliverables: an annotated outline (by 20 Sept 2026), a full draft paper (by 30 Oct 2026), and a finalized paper with complete documentation (by 30 Nov 2026).

Required profile

• Advanced degree in economics, development studies, public policy or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in economic analysis, policy research and report writing, preferably on Arab economies.
• Ability to work independently, meet tight deadlines and produce high‑quality analytical outputs.
