Camp and Community Services Officer – Nahr El Bared

About the role

The Camp and Community Services Officer represents UNRWA at the Nahr El Bared camp and its surrounding community, ensuring continuity of services and effective liaison with local authorities, NGOs and refugee representatives. Reporting to the Chief Area Officer, the role supervises a team of General Service staff and supports all programme activities on the ground.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the Agency’s point of contact at camp level, coordinating with municipalities, security forces, army units and community leaders.
• Organise and brief delegations, donors, journalists and other stakeholders during visits, occasionally providing interpretation.
• Facilitate regular meetings with Area Programme Officers, installation heads and social workers to discuss challenges and plan actions.
• Mediate disputes among refugees, particularly those related to solid‑waste collection and other community services.
• Support integration of programmes and service activities, taking corrective measures within delegated authority.
• Participate in or lead community committees as authorised by the CAO.

Required profile

• Experience in community liaison, camp management or humanitarian field operations.
• Ability to supervise and guide a team of general service staff.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with authorities, NGOs and refugee representatives.
• Flexibility to act as interpreter when required.
• Capacity to take corrective actions within defined authority.
