Economist Consultant – ESCWA Skills Monitor Project

About the role

The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is seeking an Economist on a 4‑month consultancy to support research on the ESCWA Skills Monitor, labour markets and economic growth. The role will help member states prepare for the Fourth Industrial Revolution by providing timely labour‑market insights and policy recommendations.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct research on labour‑market dynamics, skill gaps and the impact of automation across ESCWA countries.
• Analyse existing household and establishment survey data and develop innovative monitoring techniques.
• Identify mismatches between human‑capital accumulation and labour‑market demand.
• Prepare policy briefs and recommendations to modernise labour‑market regulations.
• Facilitate a regional forum to share findings and support member states in aligning education and training with emerging job opportunities.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in Economics, Labour Economics or a related field.
• Experience in labour‑market research, economic growth analysis or policy evaluation.
• Familiarity with the challenges posed by the Fourth Industrial Revolution and automation.
• Strong analytical and written communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with government officials and international partners.
