AI Engineer

About the role

AlphaLab is building an agentic quant research platform that combines deterministic backtesting, LLM‑driven research, and autonomous research agents. As an AI Engineer you will own the agentic layer, designing how agents plan, call tools, ingest market data, run backtests, and distinguish signal from noise.

Key responsibilities

• Design and ship end‑to‑end agent workflows, including planning, tool usage, memory management and multi‑step research loops.
• Develop the tool surface for agents, providing safe access to the EdgeCore backtesting engine, market data feeds, and the research artifact store.
• Build evaluation harnesses to measure agent performance and ensure a measurable pass rate for each behavior.
• Engineer context retrieval systems over research corpora, strategy history and user workspaces to improve output quality.
• Optimize cost and latency to keep agent runs economical under AlphaLab’s credit‑metering model.
• Implement guardrails against look‑ahead bias, fabricated statistics and over‑fitted conclusions.
• Collaborate directly with the founder and core engineering team on product direction.

Required profile

• Strong software engineering fundamentals with production‑grade code.
• Hands‑on experience shipping LLM‑powered systems to real users.
• Comfort with Python for AI tooling and willingness to work with C#/.NET backend and React/TypeScript frontend.
• Critical judgment on evaluation methodology and ability to operate in ambiguous, fast‑moving startup environments.
• Curiosity about financial markets and willingness to learn quantitative concepts.
