ICU Head Nurse

About the role

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Head Nurse will lead clinical and operational activities within the ICU at Saint George Medical Center, ensuring the delivery of safe, efficient, and high‑quality patient care in a compassionate environment.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate nursing activities, matching staffing levels to patient acuity, workload, and staff competency.
• Collaborate with physicians, residents, medical students, and multidisciplinary teams to maintain continuity of care and optimal outcomes.
• Oversee ICU operations, patient safety, clinical documentation, equipment readiness, and infection‑prevention compliance.
• Monitor quality indicators and departmental performance, driving performance‑improvement initiatives.
• Investigate and resolve patient, family, and physician complaints promptly.
• Manage staff scheduling, performance evaluations, competency assessments, professional development, and employee engagement.
• Control departmental resources and expenses to support cost‑effective operations.
• Foster a positive work environment, manage conflicts, support evidence‑based practice, and lead change management.
• Ensure adherence to hospital policies, Ministry of Health regulations, and accreditation standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with at least 5 years of clinical experience, including 2 years in ICU leadership, management, or education (Master’s degree is a plus).
• Valid nursing license from the Ministry of Health and registration with the Order of Nurses.
• Strong leadership, organizational, communication, conflict‑resolution, and critical‑thinking abilities.

Required skills

• Ability to manage teams, resources, patient acuity, and daily ICU operations effectively.
• Proficiency in Arabic and English; French is an asset.
