Chief Surveyor – Roads & Infrastructure Projects

About the role

ICC is looking for an experienced Chief Surveyor to lead all surveying activities on major road and infrastructure projects across Africa. This full‑time, onsite position requires a hands‑on professional who can manage field teams, coordinate with engineers and construction crews, and deliver accurate as‑built documentation in remote environments.

Key responsibilities

• Establish, verify and maintain survey control networks, benchmarks and reference points.
• Lead setting‑out and survey works for highways, bridges, culverts, drainage systems and utilities.
• Review construction and shop drawings, road alignments, profiles and cross‑sections before execution.
• Supervise survey teams and coordinate daily requirements with construction managers, site engineers and QA/QC.
• Prepare survey records, quantity calculations, earthworks measurements, as‑built drawings and progress reports.
• Support design coordination for horizontal/vertical alignment, cut‑and‑fill volumes and drainage interfaces.
• Verify contractor work against approved specifications and report discrepancies.
• Maintain calibration, proper use and secure storage of all survey equipment.

Required profile

• Technical Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 15 years of surveying experience, including at least 10 years in a senior leadership role.
• Proven experience on major road, highway, bridge and drainage projects of 50 km+ length.
• Previous work in Africa or other remote, international construction sites is highly preferred.
