Individual Contractor – Macroeconomic Nowcasting & Econometric Analysis

About the role

The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) seeks an Individual Contractor to develop and operationalise nowcasting models for key macro‑economic indicators across its member countries. Working under the project manager, you will deliver automated data pipelines and rigorous econometric analyses to support near‑real‑time policy‑relevant insights.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, clean and harmonise macro‑economic and high‑frequency data from international and national sources.
• Design and implement reproducible Python data pipelines for automated updates.
• Build datasets suitable for nowcasting and econometric modelling.
• Apply time‑series and panel‑data econometric techniques to generate forecasts.
• Validate model performance through statistical evaluation and back‑testing.
• Document technical procedures and ensure reproducibility of all outputs.
• Integrate analytical results into ESCWA reports, briefs and presentations.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Economics, Econometrics, Statistics, Data Science or a related field.
• At least one year of professional experience in macro‑economic analysis, econometrics or quantitative research.
• Demonstrated experience with macro‑economic and high‑frequency data.
• Fluency in Arabic and English (spoken, written, reading, understanding).
