Head Nurse – Operating Room

About the role

Saint George Medical Center is seeking an experienced Head Nurse to lead its Operating Room (OR) team. The role involves overseeing clinical and operational activities to ensure safe, efficient, and high‑quality patient care in a fast‑paced surgical environment.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate nursing activities in the OR, matching staffing levels to the daily schedule, patient acuity, and staff competency.
• Collaborate with physicians, residents, medical students, and other hospital departments to maintain smooth workflow.
• Oversee OR operations, patient safety, documentation accuracy, equipment maintenance, and infection‑control compliance.
• Investigate and resolve patient and physician complaints, escalating when necessary.
• Manage staff scheduling, performance evaluations, professional development, and retention initiatives.
• Monitor departmental resources and expenses to support cost‑effective operations.
• Ensure adherence to hospital policies, Ministry of Health regulations, and accreditation standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with at least 5 years of experience, including 2 years in OR management, leadership, or education.
• Valid nursing license from the Ministry of Health and registration with the Order of Nurses.
• Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Arabic and English (French is an asset).
