Frontend Developer - Examination Systems (React / TypeScript)
York Press · Zouk Mosbeh
Job description
About the role
The Frontend Developer designs and develops responsive web interfaces for examination-related systems, using React and TypeScript and integrating with REST APIs provided by an ASP.NET Core backend. The work sits in an architecture where the frontend does not talk directly to the database; all data access goes through backend APIs.
Key responsibilities
- Build reusable, maintainable UI components and integrate them with REST APIs.
- Develop interfaces for exam and question management, marker allocation and workload, and reviewer/moderation workflows for double-marked responses.
- Build dashboards, reports, tables, filters and progress indicators, with role-based views for administrators, coordinators, markers and reviewers.
- Handle API errors, loading states and network interruptions gracefully, and ensure good performance with large datasets and high-resolution images.
- Implement client-side state management and data fetching, write automated frontend tests, and take part in code reviews.
- Work closely with backend developers, UI/UX designers, QA engineers and product stakeholders.
Required profile
- Strong practical experience with React and good understanding of its component architecture, hooks and state.
- Experience integrating frontends with REST APIs, building complex forms and data-driven interfaces, and handling authentication and authorization.
- Ability to build reusable component architectures, write clean, testable code, and work collaboratively with Git.
- Preferred: experience with Material UI, TanStack Query, advanced data grids, image viewers, PDF/image display, Zustand or Redux Toolkit, React Hook Form, WebSockets, OpenAPI clients, WCAG 2.2, Vitest/Jest/Playwright, internationalization and RTL interfaces.
Required skills
- JavaScript and TypeScript, HTML and CSS
- React, REST APIs, Git
- Responsive design, asynchronous programming and browser networking
Working hours are Monday to Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (with a 1-hour lunch break) and Saturday 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM.
