Field Maintenance Manager

About the role

Africell is seeking a Field Maintenance Manager to lead network maintenance and field operations in Freetown, Sierra Leone. You will be responsible for ensuring network availability, managing large field teams, and providing technical leadership on Huawei RAN technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all field maintenance activities for RAN and transmission networks, ensuring timely fault resolution and preventive maintenance.
• Coordinate with the Network Operations Center (NOC) to manage alarms, incidents, and escalations.
• Lead, supervise, and develop a field operations team of technicians, riggers, and engineers across multiple regions.
• Plan and optimise workforce and resources to support network expansion and operational demands.
• Manage relationships with subcontractors and external service providers.
• Provide technical expertise on Huawei 3G, 4G/LTE, and 5G networks, as well as transmission and transport equipment.
• Participate in network modernization, upgrades, and optimisation projects, ensuring proper documentation.

Required profile

• 6‑8 years of experience in radio and transmission maintenance within a telecom environment.
• Proven ability to manage large field teams (20‑100 personnel) across multiple locations.
• Experience with mobile network operators and vendor‑managed environments.
• Strong knowledge of Radio Access Networks (2G/3G/4G/LTE, preferably 5G) and Huawei RAN equipment.
• Familiarity with transmission and transport networks, preventive and corrective maintenance methodologies.
• Hands‑on experience with NOC operations, alarm management, escalation procedures, and network troubleshooting.
