Economic Affairs Intern

About the role

The Economic Affairs Intern will join the External Relations and Outreach Division of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). Working under the direct supervision of the Secretary of the Commission and the Chief of External Relations and Outreach, the intern will support research and analysis on economic and social development issues across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct literature reviews and reference searches on economic development, social development and related topics.
• Compile, process and manage socioeconomic databases sourced from various publications and statistical agencies.
• Assist in drafting inputs for presentations, project documents and research papers.
• Prepare reports and surveys on the economic and social policy environment in the region.
• Support the organization of meetings and other ad‑hoc activities as required.

Required profile

• Enrolled in a graduate programme, in the final year of a bachelor programme, or a recent university graduate.
• Strong interest in United Nations work and commitment to the UN Charter.
• Ability to interact respectfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Fluency in English (spoken, written, read and understood); knowledge of Arabic is desirable.

Required skills

• Proficiency with standard computer software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office).
