DWDM Planner – Optical Transport Network

About the role

The DWDM Planner will design, plan and optimise Silklink’s DWDM and optical transport network across backbone, metro and inter‑site environments. The role focuses on efficient wavelength allocation, optical path engineering and capacity planning to meet operational and business needs.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare DWDM and optical transport network plans for backbone, metro and inter‑site connectivity.
• Translate traffic forecasts, service demands and IP/MPLS requirements into wavelength, OTN and channel capacity plans.
• Design and validate optical paths, protection schemes, route diversity, regeneration and ROADM/C DC‑F architectures.
• Perform optical spectrum planning using ITU‑T grid, Flex‑Grid and Super‑Channel technologies.
• Support multilayer protection strategies such as OLP, ASON and G.8032 (ERPS).
• Plan and validate SyncE and IEEE 1588v2 (PTP) synchronization requirements.
• Review transport inventory, fiber routes, shelf/card/port capacity and wavelength utilisation.
• Coordinate with fibre planners, IP/MPLS planners, operations, vendors and implementation teams.
• Produce implementation‑ready outputs: wavelength allocation records, trail/path assignments, equipment and migration plans.
• Identify and mitigate risks related to optical impairments, capacity exhaustion and equipment incompatibility.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electronics Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in DWDM, OTN or optical transport planning and engineering.
• Proven ability to work on complex optical networks and deliver detailed engineering documentation.
