District Guidance Counselor

About the role

The District Guidance Counselor supports students from kindergarten through post‑secondary levels, helping them overcome barriers to learning and plan for academic, occupational, and personal success. Reporting to the building principal(s), the counselor works within Lebanon District #9 to foster a supportive and inclusive environment.

Key responsibilities

• Register new students, orient them to school procedures, and assist with course and subject selection.
• Provide occupational information, coordinate college visits, job‑shadowing, and career‑planning activities.
• Maintain confidential student records and supply information to colleges and employers as required.
• Offer individual counseling for personal, family, health, and emotional issues.
• Support students at risk of dropping out and facilitate reintegration after disciplinary actions.
• Assist with state and local testing programs, schedule coordination, and master‑schedule planning.
• Deliver classroom lessons on development, success skills, and conflict resolution.
• Complete required summer duties, including student registration, reporting, and scheduling, with compensation per the collective bargaining agreement.

Required profile

• Valid Type 73 certification.
• Successful teaching experience (preferred).
• Ability to maintain student confidentiality and adhere to Board of Education policies.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with students, parents, and staff.
