Custom Clearing Lead

About the role

The Custom Clearing Lead is responsible for directing the clearance of goods through customs, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and cost‑effectiveness across international borders. This senior position oversees a dedicated team and works closely with customs authorities, freight forwarders, and internal stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and mentor the clearing team to maintain smooth daily operations.
• Design and implement streamlined clearing processes for agricultural products.
• Liaise with customs officials and regulatory bodies to guarantee full compliance.
• Monitor updates to customs legislation and adjust internal procedures accordingly.
• Manage relationships with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and other clearing agents.
• Resolve clearance discrepancies promptly to avoid shipment delays.
• Collaborate with logistics and procurement teams to optimise cargo movement and reduce costs.
• Prepare and submit accurate customs documentation and declarations.
• Provide regular performance reports and recommendations to management.

Required profile

• 8‑10 years of experience in customs clearance and international trade, preferably within the agricultural sector.
• Proven managerial or supervisory experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of customs laws, regulations, and procedures.
• Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
• Fluency in English; French is a plus.
