Consultant – Develop GETSI Trade Simulator for Bahrain

About the role

The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) seeks a consultant to develop a tailored version of the Economywide Trade Simulator Interface (GETSI) for Bahrain. The consultant will create a national CGE model, calibrate it, and prepare files for the GAMS‑MIRO platform, working remotely.

Key responsibilities

• Aggregate the GTAP 12 database to the sectoral and geographical dimensions agreed with the Ministry of Industry of Bahrain.
• Statistically calibrate the global CGE model with the new database for all countries and regions.
• Perform dynamic calibration of the baseline scenario for 2024‑2035 using latest macro‑economic forecasts.
• Test the dynamic model through simulations and prepare the required files for uploading to the GAMS‑MIRO platform.
• Support capacity‑building sessions for the national team, if required.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in applied economics or related field (PhD desirable).
• Minimum 10 years of experience developing and applying global dynamic CGE models using GAMS.
• Proven experience with the GTAP database.
• Fluency in Arabic; English required; French knowledge desirable.
