Lead Fiber Optic Network Engineer

About the role

The Lead Fiber Optic Network Engineer will head the design, deployment and optimisation of large‑scale fiber infrastructure for ICT, smart‑city and mission‑critical communications. The role ensures the network meets international telecom standards, delivers high availability and supports future growth.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop fiber architectures including long‑haul, backbone, metro, FTTx and ODN systems.
• Perform optical link engineering – power budget, attenuation, dispersion, splice and connector loss calculations.
• Create duct bank layouts, routing plans, manhole/chamber designs and GIS‑based network maps.
• Prepare detailed design packages, single‑line and splicing diagrams, OTDR acceptance criteria and as‑built documentation.
• Develop Bills of Quantities, technical specifications, method statements and engineering reports.
• Support installation, testing and commissioning (OTDR, OLTS, iOLM) and lead fault troubleshooting.
• Review contractor submissions, shop drawings and material submittals.
• Coordinate with civil, electrical, ITS and ICT teams and liaise with utility authorities for permits and approvals.
• Ensure compliance with ITU‑T, TIA/EIA, IEEE, NEC and local telecom regulations while maintaining safety and environmental standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical, Computer & Communications Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in fiber optic network design and implementation.
• Proven experience on large‑scale telecom operator or smart‑city projects.
• Strong communication and presentation abilities in English (and Arabic).
