Import & Freight Operations Manager (Congo)

About the role

A leading Group of Companies in Africa is seeking an experienced Freight Forwarding Manager to manage and oversee international shipments from supplier confirmation until cargo arrival at destination port. The role involves coordinating bookings, monitoring schedules, and ensuring compliance with customs regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Take full ownership of shipments after supplier deal confirmation.
• Coordinate bookings with freight forwarders and shipping lines.
• Monitor shipment schedules and ensure timely delivery to port.
• Review and manage all shipping documentation (Invoice, Packing List, BL, Certificate of Origin, etc.).
• Prepare and process BI, DI, and all required import documentation.
• Ensure compliance with customs and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate with banks for LC documentation when applicable.
• Control freight costs and prevent demurrage/detention risks.
• Provide regular shipment status updates to management.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in freight forwarding or import operations.
• Strong knowledge of international shipping, Incoterms, BI & DI procedures.
• Experience working with African ports and customs is a plus.
• Fluent in English; French is an advantage.
• Strong organizational and negotiation skills.
