About the role
The State of New Hampshire Department of Transportation is seeking a Highway Maintainer III to perform skilled, year‑round highway maintenance across District 2. This full‑time position involves operating and servicing complex heavy equipment, supporting construction and emergency traffic operations, and supervising entry‑level crews.
Key responsibilities
- Operate, maintain, and service heavy highway equipment and machinery.
- Perform routine and emergency highway maintenance, construction activities, and traffic services.
- Supervise and review the work of entry‑level personnel and small work crews.
- Ensure compliance with safety and operational standards on the State Highway System.
Required profile
- Minimum of 1 year of combined education and experience after high school.
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A with no air‑brake restrictions (or Class B with ability to obtain Class A within 1 year).
- Motor Vehicle Record meeting DOT standards and a clean pre‑employment drug screen.
- Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lb intermittently and be available 24 hours per day for emergency calls.
- Possession of a telephone or acceptable means of communication.
Required skills
- Operation of motorized highway equipment.
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A.
- Experience with heavy equipment maintenance and servicing.
