District Guidance Counselor

About the role

The District Guidance Counselor supports students from kindergarten through post‑secondary programs in Lebanon District #9. The role focuses on removing academic and personal barriers, providing career and college planning, and fostering social‑emotional growth to prepare students for adult life.

Key responsibilities

• Register new students, orient them to school procedures, and assist with course and subject selection.
• Maintain confidential student records and provide information to colleges and employers in accordance with Board of Education policy.
• Coordinate college visits, job‑shadowing, and career‑exploration activities.
• Offer individual counseling for personal issues such as family relations, health, and emotional adjustment.
• Support students at risk of dropping out and facilitate their reintegration after disciplinary actions.
• Assist with state and local testing programs, including data analysis and dissemination.
• Provide classroom lessons on development, success skills, and conflict resolution.
• Maintain up‑to‑date counseling resources for families and the community.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by administration, including summer responsibilities.

Required profile

• Valid Type 73 certification.
• Successful teaching experience (preferred).
• Ability to maintain student confidentiality.
• Strong communication skills with students, parents, and staff.
