Consultant – Prepare Chapters for ESCWA Poverty & Inequality Report

About the role

The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) seeks an experienced consultant to author two key chapters for its upcoming report “Making Sense of the Poverty and Inequality Puzzle in Arab Countries”. The work is fully remote and will span approximately five months.

Key responsibilities

• Research, analyse and write a 20‑page chapter titled “Size of the middle class: trends and updates” (deadline 30 September 2026).
• Research, analyse and write a 20‑page chapter titled “Living conditions of the middle class”, including a section on “Trends in inequality perceptions” (deadline 15 December 2026).
• Ensure all deliverables adhere to ESCWA’s methodological standards and are submitted on schedule.
• Transfer all produced material to ESCWA, which will retain full ownership.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in economics, social sciences, public policy or a related field.
• Proven experience in poverty, inequality or middle‑class research, preferably in the Arab region.
• Strong academic writing and analytical skills, with a track record of publishing policy‑oriented reports.
• Ability to work independently under tight deadlines.
