Consultant on Revising Beta Version of GETSI Tunisia

About the role

The Arab Trade Simulator Interface (ATSI), developed by ESCWA in 2020, covered 18 Arab countries individually, along with a limited number of trading partners. Several Arab countries have since asked ESCWA to develop tailored versions of the simulator for their ministries' analytical needs. In response to a request from the Tunisian Ministry of Commerce and Export Development, ESCWA developed a customized national version called GETSI Tunisia, which reflects the Ministry's specific requirements on sectoral disaggregation and individual representation of trading partners. This consultancy revises the beta version of GETSI Tunisia to adjust its sectoral and geographical coverage and updates the baseline scenario with the latest projections for GDP and other key exogenous variables. The work is remote and lasts about 2 months.

Key responsibilities

• Assist ESCWA's team in revising the global database used for the beta version of GETSI Tunisia, adjusting geographical and sectoral aggregation according to the comments and recommendations of the Tunisian Ministry of Commerce and Export Development.
• Recalibrate GETSI Tunisia using the revised database, including the updated interlinked Social Accounting Matrices (SAMs), and incorporate the latest projections for key exogenous variables.
• Test the model's functionality and performance through selected simulations and validation of results.
• Provide any additional files needed to upload the model on GAMS-MIRO.

Required profile

• A Master's degree in applied economics or a related field; a PhD is desirable.
• At least 10 years of experience developing and applying dynamic global CGE models to trade analysis.
• Fluency in Arabic or English; knowledge of French is desirable.

Required skills

• Knowledge of major global CGE models such as MIRAGE or LINKAGES.
• Strong experience coding and solving optimization models with GAMS.
