Climate Change Consultant

About the role

The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is seeking a Climate Change Consultant to support its regional initiatives on sand and dust storms, climate impact assessments and green finance taxonomy development. The consultant will work on a six‑month hybrid assignment, contributing to evidence‑based policymaking and capacity‑building for Arab States.

Key responsibilities

• Draft and finalize meeting notes, country fact sheets, presentations and reports for high‑level events such as the Operational Dialogue on Sand and Dust Storms, the RICCAR Regional Workshop and the Regional Expert Group on Green/Climate Finance Taxonomy.
• Coordinate with ESCWA internal teams and external partners to organise, populate and manage online platforms and e‑training tools in Arabic and English.
• Support the preparation of a guidance document and annex on climate/green finance taxonomies, including Arabic language summaries.
• Consolidate and analyse NDC 3.0 submissions of Arab States, focusing on finance, technology, capacity‑building, and sector‑specific adaptation and mitigation commitments.
• Participate in meetings, provide ad‑hoc support on climate‑change topics and ensure knowledge‑management across the project’s pillars.

Required profile

• Experience in climate‑change programmes, preferably within UN or regional development contexts.
• Proven ability to produce high‑quality analytical documents, fact sheets and presentation materials.
• Strong coordination skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
• Fluency in Arabic and English (written and spoken).
• Familiarity with climate finance, NDC processes and green taxonomy concepts.
