AI Engineer

About the role

You will own the AI and adaptive learning layer of our e‑learning platform, shaping teaching, learning, content creation and analytics. This hands‑on position requires building production‑grade AI features, documenting decisions and guiding non‑technical teammates.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, design and deliver AI and adaptive learning features, selecting the best technical approach for each problem.
• Build end‑to‑end AI solutions using large language models, retrieval, machine‑learning models and classical techniques.
• Own the adaptive learning engine, including personalized paths, mastery tracking and difficulty adjustment.
• Define metadata foundations with content and product teams and instrument the platform to capture learning signals.
• Evaluate self‑hosted and API‑based models, enforce responsible‑AI practices and measure impact on learning outcomes.
• Write clean production‑grade Python, expose AI services via REST APIs and mentor a junior AI engineer.

Required profile

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years delivering AI/ML features to real users.
• Strong ability to explain AI decisions to non‑technical stakeholders and document work for team use.
• Experience working closely with content and editorial teams on learning design.
• Rigorous approach to evaluating output quality, learning impact and data privacy, especially for minors.

Required skills

• Python (production‑grade code and API design)
• Large language model APIs, prompt engineering and retrieval‑augmented generation
• Embeddings and vector databases (e.g., pgvector, FAISS, Chroma, Pinecone)
• SQL and data‑handling libraries such as pandas
• Machine‑learning frameworks (PyTorch, scikit‑learn, Hugging Face)
• Docker, CI/CD pipelines and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP or Azure)
• REST API development and integration
• Experiment tracking and monitoring tools (MLflow, Weights & Biases, Langfuse, OpenTelemetry)
• Knowledge‑tracing and item‑response theory concepts for adaptive learning
