Fiber Network Planner

About the role

The Fiber Network Planner will be based in Damascus, Syria and will be responsible for planning and optimizing DWDM and optical transport network capacity. The role involves translating traffic demand and service requirements into detailed wavelength and transport plans, and delivering implementation‑ready documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop DWDM/optical transport plans for backbone, metro and inter‑site connectivity.
• Convert traffic, IP/MPLS and service requirements into wavelength, OTN and channel allocations.
• Design and validate optical paths, protection schemes, diversity, regeneration, ROADM/CDC‑F usage and power budgets.
• Review existing inventory, fibre routes, shelf/card/port capacity and wavelength utilisation.
• Coordinate with fibre planners, IP/MPLS planners, operations, vendors and rollout teams to align plans with physical routes.
• Produce planning outputs such as wavelength allocation, trail/path records, equipment requirements and migration plans.
• Identify risks related to capacity exhaustion, route diversity, optical impairments or inaccurate records.
• Ensure compliance with vendor engineering guidelines, standards and documentation governance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Telecom or a related field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in DWDM/OTN/optical transport planning or engineering.
• Strong knowledge of optical spectrum (ITU‑T grids, Flex Grid, Super Channels) and multilayer protection (OLP, ASON, G.8032 ERPS).
• Experience with synchronization technologies such as SyncE and IEEE 1588v2 (PTP).
• Fluent in English and Arabic.
• Proven stakeholder management and ability to work under delivery pressure while maintaining accuracy.
