Lactation Specialist – Lebanon – North

About the role

The Lactation Specialist provides targeted counseling and support to pregnant and breastfeeding women, as well as their caregivers, in primary health centres, collective shelters and host communities across northern Lebanon. The role ensures displaced and non‑displaced families receive high‑quality infant and young child feeding (IYCF) services in line with national SOPs.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver one‑on‑one counseling to pregnant and breastfeeding mothers in shelters, PHCCs and host communities.
• Monitor and manage cases referred through the IYCF national hotline using the RIMS platform.
• Conduct follow‑up visits or calls, especially for infants under six months, to promote exclusive breastfeeding.
• Facilitate group awareness sessions on IYCF in shelters and community settings.
• Collaborate with PHC gynecologists, midwives and community health volunteers to identify women needing support.
• Distribute nutrition supplies (e.g., micronutrient powders, SQ‑LNS, complementary feeding kits) according to nutrition sector guidelines.
• Build capacity of PHCC staff on breastfeeding, newborn care, ANC and PNC.
• Report daily activities and maintain accurate records in the IYCF, nutrition supplies and SRA databases.

Required profile

• High level of independence and problem‑solving ability.
• Decision‑making authority within the scope of the role, with coordination with the Health Program Coordinator.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational capacity.
• Cultural sensitivity, professionalism, politeness and objectivity when interacting with beneficiaries.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the RIMS case‑management system.
• Experience using IYCF and nutrition supply databases for reporting.
• Knowledge of national IYCF SOPs and nutrition supply distribution protocols.
