Lab Attendant – Blood Bank

About the role

AUBMC is hiring a Lab Attendant for its Blood Bank. Under general supervision, the role covers a variety of duties, including blood component preparation and the transport of blood and blood components to and from the operating rooms and blood drive sites, in a prompt, accurate and reliable way, in line with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Clean refrigerators, freezers, water baths and equipment surfaces, and clean and organise benches and work areas.
• Maintain order in the Donor Room and keep adequate supplies at each workstation.
• Prepare blood components, such as separating whole blood into red blood cells and plasma, preparing cryoprecipitate and using the sterile connecting device.
• Transport blood to and from the operating rooms, carry blood units from blood drive sites and help prepare blood drives.
• Keep the blood bank storage area tidy and transport documents such as charge cards and refunds between areas.
• Perform other related duties assigned by the direct supervisor.

Required profile

• Elementary education.
• Preferred: 0-2 years of relevant experience in laboratory operations.
• Arabic and English, with an EET score of at least 450.
• Knowledge of the department's policies and procedures and basic knowledge of carrying procedures and safe handling of laboratory supplies.

The position reports to the Lab Supervisor and then the Lab Director, involves moderate physical effort and regular weekday hours; hazardous working conditions apply.
