Full-time Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice in Computing & Data Sciences

About the role

The School of Computing and Data Sciences (SCDS) at the American University of Beirut is building its core faculty and seeks a full-time, non‑tenure‑track Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice. The role focuses on delivering practice‑based education, linking academic foundations with real‑world challenges in computing, data science, and artificial intelligence.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses that integrate professional practice and experiential learning.
• Lead project‑based learning initiatives, mentor students, and guide them in real‑world problem solving.
• Forge and maintain partnerships with industry, government, and external organizations to bring relevant challenges and opportunities to the school.
• Contribute to the evolution of practice‑oriented curricula and support the school’s intellectual and institutional development.

Required profile

• PhD in computing, data science, or a closely related discipline.
• Significant professional experience leading teams, projects, or initiatives in computing, data science, AI, or related fields.
• Demonstrated ability to translate industry expertise into high‑quality teaching and mentoring.
• Record of research and publication is a strong asset, though the primary focus is professional practice.
