Director of Quality Assurance and Academic Development

About the role

The Director of Quality Assurance and Academic Development leads the university’s institution‑wide effort to safeguard and continuously improve the quality of its academic programs, policies, and outcomes. Reporting to the Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation, the role oversees three key units and builds a culture of evidence‑based improvement across the campus.

Key responsibilities

• Set strategic direction and annual priorities for the Office of Quality Assurance and Academic Development, aligned with institutional effectiveness goals.
• Directly supervise coordinators of the Academic and Outcomes Audit, Policy Governance and Compliance, and Action Plan Audit units, managing performance and professional development.
• Manage the office’s budget and resources, reporting progress against quality‑assurance goals to senior leadership.
• Define, track, and report key performance indicators for core quality‑assurance functions.
• Promote equality of opportunity, diversity, inclusion, and staff/student wellbeing.
• Develop and maintain institution‑wide quality‑assurance frameworks, program‑review cycles, and learning‑outcomes assessment processes.
• Establish benchmarks and standards that align with local, regional, and international best practices.
• Oversee the Academic Policies Unit to ensure clear, consistent, and compliant policies that reflect institutional integrity and regulatory requirements.
• Provide leadership and secretariat support to the university’s quality/standards committees.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in higher‑education quality assurance, academic development, or related fields.
• Deep understanding of accreditation standards, institutional effectiveness, and policy governance.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple teams, budgets, and complex projects.
• Strong analytical mindset with experience developing performance metrics and reporting frameworks.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with vice presidents, deans, and external stakeholders.
